The ongoing War in Ukraine fundamentally redefines the paradigm of tactical communications, prompting an immediate evolution in the US Army’s Concept of Signal Support. In an environment where radio frequency (RF) emissions and thermal signatures immediately give away unit positions and invite precision targeting within a matter of minutes, the challenge of deploying resilient, survivable command posts while satisfying requirements for high-bandwidth data and video becomes increasingly complex. This session moves beyond theory by leveraging real-world case studies from the War in Ukraine to confront the reality of exercising command & control on a transparent battlefield proliferated with unmanned systems, long-range precision fires, sensors, and advanced electronic warfare. Former Security Assistance Group - Ukraine (SAG-U) J6 and EW representatives will provide firsthand insights into the conflict's technical and tactical realities with a heavy focus on the immediate implications for Soldier training, the tactical employment of current and future communications systems, and the urgent materiel solutions required from industry partners to ensure future network survivability.
