Salim R. Mawani is a seasoned federal financial management leader with a career dedicated to advancing good governance, transparent reporting, and strong accountability across government. He is recognized for driving transformative improvements through collaboration, innovation, and customer-focused initiatives that reduce burden while strengthening financial management outcomes. Mr. Mawani currently serves at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) within the Federal Housing Administration (FHA), where he oversees key aspects of financial operations. His responsibilities include maintaining robust internal controls, modernizing financial systems, and streamlining processes to support effective operations and meet complex financial reporting requirements. Previously, Mr. Mawani was selected as a Fellow in the White House Leadership Development Program, where he supported the President’s Management Agenda and Cross-Agency Priority Goals. He also served as Senior Advisor to the Chief Financial Officer at the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), providing strategic financial management, planning, and operational guidance. Earlier in his career, he held senior roles with the Smithsonian Institution and consulting positions at EY and KPMG, supporting numerous federal agencies. He also served as Vice President at AuditWatch and as a Manager at the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO). Mr. Mawani has been deeply engaged in AGA, serving in multiple leadership roles including Washington, DC Chapter President and Education Director. He has also served on the Professional Ethics Board and currently serves on AGA’s Audit Committee.
