Colonel Matthew L. McGraw was commissioned into the Aviation Branch in 2001 after graduating from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University with a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Studies. Upon completion of flight training, COL McGraw served as the Intelligence and Electronic Warfare Platoon Leader for the 1st Military Intelligence Battalion (Aerial Exploitation) in Wiesbaden, Germany, and deployed with the platoon to Balad, Iraq. He then commanded the battalion’s rear detachment for the unit's second deployment to Iraq. Following the Military Intelligence Captains Career Course, he immediately deployed to Tikrit, Iraq, with Task Force ODIN as the Deputy S-3 for the Task Force. COL McGraw then took command of A Co 15th MI Bn (AE) and led the HUNTER Unmanned Aerial Systems Company, and Sky Warrior Block 0 detachment through a deployment to Balad, Iraq. COL McGraw was next assigned as the Executive Officer (XO) and S-3 of 3rd MI Bn (AE) at Camp Humphreys, Korea. COL McGraw was selected as the first aviator to attend the Army Intelligence Development Program (AIDP), Fort Meade, Maryland, with a follow-on as the Collection Manager for the United States Army Pacific (USARPAC). He was selected to command the United States Army Priority Air Transport – Pacific Flight Detachment (USAPAT-PFD) at Joint Base Pearl Harbor – Hickam and completed two rotations to Afghanistan prior to deactivating the PFD. He completed his Hawaii tour as a research fellow with the Asia Pacific Center for Security Studies (APCSS) and earned his Master of Arts in Intelligence through American Military University. COL McGraw was selected to command the 1-214th Aviation Battalion (General Support), headquartered in Wiesbaden, Germany, with units in Ansbach and Grafenwoehr. Following Battalion Command, LTC McGraw moved to United States European Command in Stuttgart, Germany, as the Chief of Intelligence Collection, responsible for managing intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance operations for US, bilateral, and multi-lateral missions across the theater. COL McGraw was selected to attend the Army War College Fellowship at the Georgia Institute of Technology, where he focused on Object Based Collection Orchestration. COL McGraw served as the Commander of the 116th Military Intelligence Brigade (Aerial Intelligence) as was responsible for the Army’s Aerial Intelligence collection capabilities supporting six geographic combatant commands. He led the divestment of the legacy turboprop aircraft and the fielding of the bridge jet platforms in preparation for the launch of the High Accuracy Detection and Exploitation System (HADES). COL McGraw's and his wife Janice have been married for 25 years and have two sons.
