James FX Payne has assumed a variety of leadership roles in the cyber and national security field for most of his career. He is the vice president of Business Development at SecureG, a MITRE Engenuity and CTIA entity whose mission is to build cloud native PKI for zero-trust machine communication. He is also on the board of the Duke Ellington School of the Arts in Washington D.C. Previous positions include senior vice president and general manager of National Security and Cyber Infrastructure at Telcordia Technologies as well as vice president/general manager for Sprint and Qwest Federal divisions. Payne has also served on key national security committees such as the President's Commission on Critical Infrastructure Protection, the Council on Competitiveness and the President's National Security Telecommunications Advisory Committee (NSTAC). Payne has served on the Board of Directors of AFCEA International and is a member of the AFCEA Cyber Committee, where he has published numerous white papers on a variety of critical cyber issues. He also spent 25 years on the Board of Associates and the Board of Trustees at Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C. Payne earned the prestigious Federal 100 industry award in 1996 and 2000 for significant achievements in federal information technology. He has earned an MBA from George Washington University and a BBA from Georgetown University.
