High-Power Diode Lasers in Large Scale Additive Manufacturing
In the past few years, diode lasers have evolved in output power and beam quality, opening up new innovative usability scenarios for this efficient robust and inexpensive laser source. Additive Manufacturing (AM) nowadays is undergoing a revolution as it moves from the prototype and tooling shop and onto the factory floor. A growing range of companies is deploying AM to create innovative new products that deliver increased performance. This presentation will introduce diode lasers and their usage in the field of AM focused on production of large parts and how it significantly decreases cycle times. High efficiency and robustness of the sources make it ideally suitable for large area free form additive and hybrid manufacturing resulting; therefore, in high productivity and decreasing cycle time paving the way into intelligent and resource efficient production environments.

Additive Manufacturing and the Need for Power Protection
With more than 25 years of power quality experience, the presenter led the commercial power quality initiative within GE's Critical Power Group. The goal of this group was to develop and test a viable power quality solution to support and protect mission critical additive processes. The result created one of the industry's first power quality-based solutions for the additive process that has become the standard with manufacturers such as EOS, Arcam, Concept Laser and GE to name a few. This session will share how this team continues to collaborate with industry leading users in the military, healthcare and others to pioneer new and unique power offerings to support this specialized market.
