An organization’s success with their lean manufacturing system (LMS) is dependent on many variables, including leadership understanding, commitment and direction with LMS, improving operational effectiveness and quality and standardizing operations. But the most critical principle within any successful LMS is ensuring high levels of employee engagement throughout the organization. Unfortunately, this principle many times is the least understood and focused upon, resulting in limited LMS success. This talk will discuss why employee engagement is the most important LMS principle and how to reinforce it to ensure organizational success.

Advancing Production Floor Communication to Strengthen Standard Work
Standard Operating Procedures are important to achieve process control, predictable outcomes, a safe work environment, compliance to local, state and federal laws, and much more. Often they sit in binders on a production floor collecting dust. More often, production crews and professionals cut corners and risk all kinds of unintended outcomes such: injuries or near misses on the job, customer complaints and unplanned downtime. This presentation highlights a Strong Point engagement that used a blended strategy of start-of -shift scrum meetings, regular-rounds check-lists, tour-boss logbooks, required testing and process documentation, activity-based coaching sessions and on-the-floor videos to help operators and crews learn and master important standard operating procedures. The presentation provides owners and production managers some suggestions and examples to enliven and embed effective operating procedures on the production floor.
