Implementing DoD Data Tagging and Classification for IL-6 Environments (Room Kūkākūkā Theater)

29 Oct 25
12:00 PM - 1:00 PM

Tracks: Breakout Sessions, Kukakuka Theater

As the Department of Defense advances data-centric security and zero-trust principles, accurate data tagging and classification are critical to protecting national security information. This session examines the implementation of manual data tagging on enterprise endpoints to meet DoD requirements for handling classified and controlled information within Impact Level 6 (IL-6) environments.

Attendees will gain practical insight into applying DoDM 5200.01, Volume 2, which governs information classification and marking, ensuring consistency and compliance across classified domains. The session will also explain the role of DoD Minimum Essential Metadata (MEM) — a required set of metadata elements that support secure data sharing, discovery, and access control across DoD systems.

Through real-world examples, the session highlights how metadata tagging and classification markings enhance interoperability, mission assurance, and auditability across both connected and isolated IL-6 environments.

Whether you are a cybersecurity professional, system architect, or program manager, this session will clarify how aligning endpoint tagging solutions with DoD classification and metadata requirements enables trusted collaboration and strengthens data protection across Defense networks.
