Ensuring Equitable and Compliant Disciplinary Decisions for Students with Disabilities (Room Rotunda)

Navigating disciplinary decisions for students with disabilities can be complex and challenging. This session provides you with a comprehensive framework around disciplinary decision-making through coordinated collaboration between administrators, special educators, student support teams and hearing office personnel. Utilizing this framework will allow schools to ensure that disciplinary actions are both legally compliant and grounded in equitable practices. During this session, you will collaborate in small groups to apply this framework to complex, real‑world disciplinary scenarios. This hands‑on work will allow you to examine the full disciplinary process—from the initial incident through the completion of any required manifestation determination reviews and disciplinary hearings—with greater depth and clarity. By the end of the session, you will deepen your understanding of how to approach disciplinary incidents involving students with disabilities through a lens of compliance, collaboration, and student support.
