AI (Artificial Intelligence) for Special Education Leaders: Using AI to Strengthen IEP Quality, Reduce Staff Burnout, and Improve Student Outcomes (Room 553 A/B)

Special education leaders across the country are facing unprecedented challenges: staff shortages, increasing compliance demands, and rising expectations for instructional outcomes. Artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly emerging as a powerful tool to support educators, but many administrators are unsure how to implement it responsibly and effectively. This session explores how special education leaders can leverage AI to improve the quality and efficiency of special education systems while maintaining legal compliance and professional judgment. Participants will learn practical strategies for using AI to: • Strengthen present levels and measurable Individualized Education Programs (IEP) goals • Support evidence-based instructional planning and differentiation • Streamline documentation and progress monitoring • Assist educators in developing legally defensible IEP language • Reduce educator workload while maintaining high expectations for students with disabilities Through real district examples and guided demonstrations, participants will explore how AI can support special education teams in strengthening IEP development, aligning services with High-Leverage Practices (HLPs), and improving the clarity and quality of present levels, measurable goals, and specially designed instruction (SDI), while maintaining ethical and responsible use. Attendees will leave with implementation frameworks, leadership considerations, and practical prompts that can immediately support special education teams in their districts.
