As Special Education faces unprecedented challenges to long-held beliefs and policies, we may find guidance in our response to the changes we have faced. In 1997, the amendments to IDEA promoted practices that are commonplace today. Access to the general curriculum, positive behavioral interventions and support, and alternate dispute resolution were among the changes that required new partners to bridge perspectives and move forward together through the IDEA Partnership. The principles and tools they co-created address underlying beliefs, lived experience, and system pressures that separate people.
