A wave of state literacy legislation has reshaped reading instruction across the country in recent years. What are the implications for students with disabilities? Reading laws and dyslexia laws can impact IEPs, intervention plans, screening requirements, and teacher preparation standards. This interactive session examines the policy landscape through six considerations specifically designed to help special education leaders navigate literacy legislation in their states. Participants will understand how current or pending legislation in their own states may affect students with disabilities and leave with a practical framework for cross-departmental collaboration, and implementation planning.
