Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools are rapidly becoming part of educators’ daily workflow, with many teachers using AI to assist with lesson planning, goal writing, and documentation tasks. As districts increasingly explore or adopt AI tools, special education leaders must consider how these technologies intersect with legally required documents such as IEPs, evaluation reports, and 504 plans. This session will examine emerging trends in the use of AI in special education documentation, including how educators are using AI to support IEP development, evaluation writing, and goal creation. Participants will explore ethical and legal considerations such as confidentiality, authorship, accuracy, and compliance with IDEA and Section 504. The session will emphasize a balanced approach that positions AI as a tool to support educators while maintaining professional judgment and individualized decision-making. Participants will review practical strategies for ethical AI use, discuss policy considerations for districts, and explore how administrators can guide responsible implementation.
