Fifty years ago as IDEA was being born, local CEC chapters were vibrant and ready to help teachers with no special education experience learn how to meet the needs of their students! In one state in 1975, there were 42 local chapters -yet today there are fewer than 10! Bringing back local CEC chapters will provide an intentional structure for the development of leadership and instructional skills! This session will give you step by step guidance on how to help teachers help themselves! Reseach of the field indicates the number one need teachers have is the need to feel supported! Provide the leadership to bring local chapters back to your teachers. Local chapter are an intentional method that supports both new to the field teachers as well as veteran teachers! It is also an intentional way to develop your leadership pipeline. An added benefit to the development of a local chapter is the ability to recruit middle school and high school students as well as paraeducators into the field of special education!
