Special education leaders and staff within Local Education Agencies (LEAs) are responsible for communicating complex IDEA data to families, educators, and community stakeholders. However, many IDEA reports—including the State Performance Plan/Annual Performance Report (SPP/APR) as well as local district data reports—contain technical language, dense statistics, and formatting that make them difficult for stakeholders to interpret and use. This interactive session will demonstrate how LEA staff can use strategically designed AI prompts to improve the accessibility of IDEA data reporting and reduce cognitive load. Participants will learn practical prompting techniques that help translate reports into plain language summaries, accessible explanations that support screen readers used by individuals who are blind, and stakeholder-friendly narratives without altering the integrity of the data. Participants will explore examples using real-world IDEA report scenarios and will practice writing prompts that transform data tables and compliance language into clearer explanations suitable for families, school boards, and community stakeholders, which includes individuals with disabilities. Attendees will leave with ready-to-use AI prompts as well as guidance that can immediately improve how IDEA data is communicated within their districts.
