Students with disabilities can fall behind when digital learning materials don’t work with the assistive technology (AT) they rely on, such as screen readers, text-to-speech, voice recognition, or switch access. Despite common assumptions, most digital materials are not designed to function effectively with AT unless accessibility is intentionally addressed. School districts can address this challenge by building coordinated systems that integrate accessibility across the ways students receive digital materials. This session introduces the Quality Indicators of Education Systems that Deliver Accessible Materials, developed by the federally funded National Center on Accessible Digital Educational Materials & Instruction. Participants will explore how the Quality Indicators help districts strengthen the selection, creation, and use of accessible materials and technology. Through a guided simulation using NCADEMI’s self-assessment tool, participants will examine current practices, discuss common challenges, and identify one practical action they can take within 30 days to strengthen accessibility across their district.
