COL Keith S. Vanyo is a native of Lowville, New York. He began his Army career by enlisting in the United States Army Reserves in 1994 and was later commissioned as an Active-Duty Armor Officer in 1999. His first assignment was as an Anti-tank Platoon Leader with the 2d Armored Cavalry Regiment in Fort Polk, LA. After two years as a detailed Armor officer, COL Vanyo was branched Signal Corps and attended the Signal Branch qualification course Fort Gordon, Georgia. He was then reassigned with the Regimental S-6 and served as a Retransmission Platoon Leader and the Regimental Automation Officer. There, COL Vanyo deployed with the 2d Armored Cavalry Regiment in April 2003 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Upon returning from deployment, COL Vanyo moved to Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and was assigned to the 35th Signal Brigade as the Assistant Operations Officer. In 2004, he was selected as the Commander of Delta Company, 51st Signal Battalion (Airborne). In 2007, COL Vanyo moved to New Jersey to serve as the North Jersey Recruiting Commander in the Mid Atlantic Recruiting Battalion. In February 2010, COL Vanyo moved to Hawaii and served as the Brigade S6 for the 25th Combat Aviation Brigade. In 2012, he deployed to Afghanistan as the Brigade S6 for Task Force Wings in Support of Regional Command South. In 2014, COL Vanyo was selected to join the White House Communications Agency, where he served three years as a Presidential Communications Officer, Presidential Response Officer, and the J2 Security Director. In 2017, COL Vanyo returned to Hawaii to serve as the Deputy Brigade Commander for the 516th Signal Brigade. In 2018, he was selected to serve as the ACofS, G6 for the 8th Theater Sustainment Command. In 2020, COL Vanyo served as the INDOPACOM Enterprise Services Division Chief. His military education includes the Armor Officer Basic Course, the Scout Leaders Course, Marine Expeditionary Warfare School, Command and General Staff College, and the Space Enablers Course. His civilian education Colorado State University graduate, he holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Restaurant and Resort Management and a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the College of Saint Rose and a Master’s degree in Strategic Studies at the US Army War College. His awards and decorations include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (3rd OLC), the Army Commendation Medal (1st OLC), Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Ribbon (1st BS), Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal (1st CS), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Medal, NATO Medal, the Presidential Service Badge, the US Army Parachutist Badge, the Army Air Assault Badge, the Army Recruiting Badge. He is married to the former Tina Bellinger from Lowville, New York, and they have two children Tyler (19) and Alexa (16).
