David Herbst is the Director of Solutions at Mattermost Federal and is widely recognized as a senior technologist, AI/ML innovator, and strategic leader in federal and defense technology. With over 20 years of experience, David brings deep subject matter expertise from mission-critical government roles, including directing a Regional Cyber Center (RCC), overseeing more than 115 technology programs of record (POR), delivering Special Operations technology mission support across Europe and Africa, and enabling secure classified and coalition network capabilities for complex SOF missions. His leadership blends advanced technical skills with agile program delivery, driving mission success and operational excellence in some of the most secure, high-stakes environments. David’s track record includes winning and executing multi-million-dollar federal contracts, combining technical expertise with strategic business acumen to accelerate growth and ensure mission results. Prior to his role at Mattermost, David held key positions at leading AI companies—including Virtualitics, Primer.ai, Rebellion Defense, and Descartes Labs—where he led technical programs and solution architecture across federal and defense organizations. David holds a Bachelor of Arts in Defense Systems Management from the Defense Acquisition University, formal training in Electronic Systems Technology from Air University, and DAWIA Level III certification in Federal Acquisition. He is also a graduate of Senior Executive Service and Program Executive Officer leadership programs, and maintains an active Top Secret/SCI clearance.
