Major Steven Sifuentes enlisted in the Marine Corps in June 2003 as an 0341 Mortarman. Following the School of Infantry, then Lance Corporal Sifuentes, received orders to 2nd Battalion, 4th Marines where he deployed to Ramadi, Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Upon his return, Corporal Sifuentes accepted an offer to attend the United States Naval Academy's (USNA) commissioning program where he commissioned a Marine Corps Second Lieutenant in May 2010.
After graduation, Second Lieutenant Sifuentes participated in a graduate education program at the National University of Ireland, Maynooth (September 2010 - September 2011) and King's College London (September 2011 - September 2012). Upon completion of his advanced studies, entry-level training at The Basic School, and qualification as a Communications Officer, First Lieutenant Sifuentes reported to 3d Marine Division (3dMARDIV) Communications Company where he served as the Assistant Operations/Training Officer and Data Platoon Commander. In January 2015, Captain Sifuentes assumed command of Headquarters Company, Headquarters Battalion, 3d MARDIV where he also served as the Camp Commandant in support of the Division Headquarters element during Balikatan 2015. Following company command, Captain Sifuentes served as the Assistant Operations Officer for 3dMARDIV G6.
In July 2016, Captain Sifuentes executed orders from 3dMARDIV to Marine Wing Communications Squadron 18 (MWCS-18), 1st Marine Aircraft Wing where he was assigned the Communications Officer for the Indo-Pacific Command (INDOPACOM) Command and Control Element - Philippine (PCCE-P) for two months. Upon his return in September 2016, Captain Sifuentes took over as the Executive Officer for MWCS-18's Detachment Alpha and fully assumed company command of Detachment Alpha until October 2018. Captain Sifuentes finished his tour with MWCS-18 as the squadron's Assistant Operations Officer.
After leaving III Marine Expeditionary Force in April 2019, Captain Sifuentes reported to Headquarters Marine Corps (HQMC) Command, Control, Communications, and Computers (C4) where he primarily served as the Naval Integration Officer. In April 2022, Major Sifuentes reported to 12th Marine Regiment where he served as the Regiment S-6 Officer and Headquarters Battery Commander. Major Sifuentes served as the III MEF G6 Plans Officer where he focused on operational plan development, communications planning support to the fires architecture, and capabilities integration lead for emerging technologies such as Joint Fires Network, Family of Integrated Targeting Cells, and others. Major Sifuentes currently serves as a Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Combat Systems, and Information Planner with Pacific Fleet Headquarters where he continues the development of communications architectures that support critical operations, activities, and investments in the INDOPACOM Region.
Major Sifuentes is a native of Redmond, Washington. His personal wards include Purple Heart, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation with gold star in lieu of second award, Navy Marine Corps Achievement Medal. He is married to Heather Sifuentes of Redmond, Washingron. Together, Heather and Steven Sifuentes have two children: Olivia and Abby.
