Larissa Smith
Advanced Manufacturing Director
Maritime Industrial Base Program, US Navy
Larissa Smith is the Advanced Manufacturing Director for the Navy’s Maritime Industrial Base (MIB) Program. In this role, she leads the technological advancement of the MIB Program by implementing and integrating advanced manufacturing technologies to enhance capability and capacity across the maritime industrial base. Smith began her career in 2012 as a welding engineer at Huntington Ingalls Industries where she developed, planned and implemented advanced welding techniques including robotic welding applications for submarine construction. She later worked in private industry as a production and quality manager before joining Naval Sea Systems Command in October 2019 as the Welding Systems Integration Lead for the Columbia Class Program Office (PMS397). She has since served as the Industry 4.0 Lead, Non-Destructive Testing Lead and Deputy Director of Advanced Manufacturing, for the MIB Program before transitioning to her current leadership role. She has a Bachelor of Science in Materials Science and Engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.
