Colonel Stepp serves as the Assistant Chief of Staff G-6 Communications, I Marine Expeditionary Force. A native of Sierra Madre, California, Col Stepp graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 2002. A career Communications Officer, he’s deployed in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM, Operation ENDURING FREEDOM, and provided humanitarian assistance with Special Purpose MAGTF Katrina. His command assignments include Commanding Officer, 9th Communication Battalion; Company Commander, Company B, Marine Wing Communications Squadron 28 and Company M, MCRD San Diego. His principal staff and Joint assignments include Military Assistant to the Principal Deputy Chief Information Officer, Office of the Secretary of Defense; Deputy Chief, Cyber Security, Joint Special Operations Command; Operational Planner and Aide-de-Camp to the Commander, US Marine Corps Forces Command and Fleet Marine Forces Atlantic; Operations Officer and Weapons and Tactics Instructor, Marine Wing Communications Squadron 28; and S-6, 1st Battalion, 8th Marines. He graduated with Honors and Distinction from the United States Naval War College; Expeditionary Warfare School, Marine Corps University; and University of San Diego. He completed the Executive Education Program at Darden Business School, University of Virginia, and served as the Secretary of Defense’s Executive Fellow to Space Exploration Technologies Corporation (SpaceX). His personal decorations include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (with one gold star), Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three gold stars), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (one gold star), and Combat Action Ribbon. He received the Colonel Donald C. Cook Award for outstanding leadership and excellence in Command, Control, and Communications. Col Stepp is married to the former, Briana K. Horton, from McMinnville, Oregon; they have three sons.
