Alex Keen is Managing Principal at Keen Independent Research, where he leads the firm’s arts and culture practice and advises venues, institutions, and public agencies on strategy and operations. With nearly 20 years of experience in venue management and consulting, Alex brings deep expertise in venue safety and security, risk management, facility and project management, and strategic planning for the arts, culture, entertainment, and hospitality sectors. Alex previously served as Venue Manager for the Mesa Community College Performing Arts Center, where he led operations, security, and project delivery for a high-volume, multi-use venue hosting more than 250 events annually. His experience also includes serving as faculty in venue management for several higher education institutions, as well as professional work in technical theater and production at venues throughout the Northeast and Florida. A graduate of the IAVM Venue Management School and the Academy for Venue Safety and Security, Alex currently serves as Chair of the IAVM Academy for Venue Safety and Security and sits on the IAVM Amphitheaters and Fairgrounds Committee. He is the founding chair of the IAVM University Safety and Security Subcommittee. His work has been featured in Facility Manager and International Arts Manager magazines, and he is a frequent national speaker on venue safety, market research, demand forecasting, and strategic planning.
