Kimberly Figel Benoit was appointed as the inspector general for the Library of Congress by Librarian Carla Hayden in October 2024. Formerly the Assistant Inspector General for Audits of NASA, Benoit’s more than 20-year career comprises a broad professional portfolio spanning both the public and private sectors. Benoit has extensive federal audit and investigative experience in both the executive and legislative branches. As head of the Library’s Office of the Inspector General, she provides oversight for all Library programs and operations, including audits, investigations, and other reviews and semiannual reports to the Congress. Throughout her career, Kimberly has demonstrated a steadfast commitment to enhancing accountability and operational efficiency across multiple federal agencies, including NASA and the U.S. Postal Service. She has been considered a catalyst for transformative change within the oversight profession, advocating for the integration of artificial intelligence, advanced data analytics and innovative technologies to improve processes and outcomes. She has lectured on topics including data analytics, leadership, emotional intelligence, and fraud prevention to both domestic and foreign audiences. In 2025, she was elected to the Board of Regents of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners. Benoit holds a Master of Business Administration from Ohio University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting, with a Leadership Studies Minor from Marietta College, Marietta, Ohio. She is a Virginia licensed certified public accountant and a certified fraud examiner. She is a USA Archery Level 1 coach.
