Deputy Assistant Inspector General for Audits and Evaluations

Steve Bracci has been with the Office of Inspector General since September 2001 and was appointed the Deputy Assistant Inspector General for Audits and Evaluations, Healthcare, in December 2024. In this position, Mr. Bracci is responsible for leading, directing, and monitoring divisions that conduct independent oversight of healthcare operations. The divisions he is responsible for are geographically dispersed and include a workforce of auditors with varying grades. Mr. Bracci is responsible for providing oversight of the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) through independent audits, reviews, and inspections. Prior to his appointment to the Senior Executive Service (SES), he served as the Director of the Claims and Medical Exams and Compensation Programs Benefits Inspection Divisions in the Office of Audits and Evaluations since January 2017. Mr. Bracci led various teams and staff in performing oversight of the Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA), which included national inspections, congressional requests, and OIG hotline reviews. Throughout his OIG career, Mr. Bracci has been honored with prestigious awards, including the Council of the Inspectors General on Integrity and Efficiency Glen/Roth Award for Exemplary Service in 2022 and the Inspector General Sustained Superior Performance Award in 2021. Mr. Bracci graduated in 2000 from the University of New Hampshire, Whittemore School of Business and Economics, with a bachelor of science degree in hospitality management.
