Maximizing Parent Involvement Involvement, Staffing and Compliance Within Child Find Activities (Room Hall B exhibit hall)

Come learn about how a mid-size school district improved their Child Find process by examining staffing, timelines and developing a parent involvement resource to fully explain the process to families.  In this district, parents were frequently confused about the screening and evaluation processes and felt that their child had already been evaluated after going through an initial screening process.  Another challenge facing the district was the belief by staff that there were allowable exceptions to the required timeline for all initial evaluations and initial IEPs to be in place by the child's third birthday. Staffing considerations were also reviewed and changes made to streamline the Child Find process.  Participants can take away a sample parent involvement resource and lessons learned about staffing and compliance.
